Extract From Bishop Mike Okonkwo Devotional 2023
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:28 (KJV)
According to our text, God blessed man. Adam had not asked for anything. But God blessed him. To be blessed in this context means you are empowered to succeed. You are empowered to make it. You are empowered to overcome, and you are empowered to subdue any challenge.
The first thing Adam heard when his eyes were open was that he was blessed. The next thing God said to man was “Be fruitful”. In other words, God was saying to them “be productive”.
