Saddleback Church was founded by Rick and Kay Warren when they were just 26 years old. They lacked resources like money, land, buildings, and members, but they had a dream. The vision that God gave him.
Pastor Rick is one of the top pastors in the country since he founded Saddleback Valley Community Church in 1980. Many of today’s top pastors credit him and his book, The Purpose Driven Church, with motivating them to pursue their own callings to ministry. He coaches emerging leaders. He established the Purpose Driven Network, a network of over 160 pastors from around the world.
Pastor Rick Warren is also the founder of the Rick Warren Ministries, Devotionals, and Daily Hope Radio broadcast ministry. HISTORY OF SADDLEBACK VALLEY COMMUNITY CHURCH, TEXAS.
Rick Warren, who had just received his theology degree, and his wife Kay made their home in the Saddleback Valley region of Orange County, The church was founded in 1980 as a Bible study group with six members, led by pastor Rick Warren and his wife, in their condo. On Easter Sunday in 1980, the first worship service was held in a high school’s gym. It unveiled its main structure, which includes a 3,500-seat auditorium, in Lake Forest in 1995.
The P.E.A.C.E. Plan was established by Kay and Rick Warren of Saddleback Church as a church-based initiative for humanitarian development in 2003. Saddleback Church served as the venue for the second yearly Global Summit on AIDS and the Church in November and December 2006. There were 60 speakers at the summit, including Senators Sam Brownback and Barack Obama. [8]
Since its founding, the church claimed to have baptized 50,000 people in 2018.
A church census published in 2020 stated that there were 15 campuses located throughout several cities and that 23,494 individuals attended each week.
Andy Wood was appointed senior pastor of the church in 2022. The Southern Baptist Convention audited the church for compliance in 2021 after it ordained three women as pastors that year, operating in violation of the Convention’s statement of faith that the pastoral ministry is only for men.
The church has a Baptist confession of faith and is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention and also, the ministry offers various programs, such as The Purpose Driven Church (PDC) curriculum and Celebrate Recovery, an addiction recovery support group program.

How do you become a member of Saddleback Church?
There is no official membership process; after three visits, you are considered a member of the Saddleback community. Each service ends with a reception in the New Beginnings where you may get to know some of the church staff members.
