House Fellowship Leader’s Manual Lesson No: 1
OPENING PRAYER: Father, we thank You for bringing us into another RCCG calendar year, we bless You for the past, present and the glorious future in Jesus name.
MEMORY VERSE: “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
BIBLE TEXT: Psalms 100:1-4 (KJV)
1 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: In I Thessalonians 5:18, God commands us to give thanks in everything because it is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us. Looking at the various battles we have faced this year; cashless policy, economy instability, unseen battles we won, daily provisions, salvation of our souls, etc. and God has seen us through, we are therefore required to thank Him.
LESSON AIM: To encourage members to show gratitude to God for keeping them thus far.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to know:
- Reasons for giving thanks to God.
- Benefits accrued to giving thanks to God.
TEXT REVIEW: Psalms 100:1-4
Everybody is required to appreciate God for His countless benefits.
God made us and not ourselves, we are His handwork.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: WHY SHOULD WE GIVE THANKS?
We are to give thanks because God;
- Commands us to do so – 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
- Gave us the greatest gift which is salvation through a relationship with His Son Jesus Christ – John 3: 16.
- Answers our prayers – Jeremiah 33:3.
- Provides for our needs – Philippians 4:19; 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18.
- Showers us with blessings and mercy – Phil. 4:6, 1 Chronicles 16:34.
- Protects and keeps us- Psalms 91.
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: BENEFITS OF THANKSGIVING
- It brings glory to God -II Corinthians 4:15.
- It helps us to see God in all our endeavours – James 1:16-17.
- It puts us in God’s will – 1Thessalonians 5:18.
- It gives us peace – Philippians 4:6-7.
- It draws us closer to God- Luke 17:17, 19.
- It brings contentment- I Timothy 6:6-8.
- It deepens one’s faith and leads to joy – Psalms 13; 126: 1-3.
ACTIVITY: What are the dangers of ingratitude?
SUMMARY: Thanking God always, grants us blessings, undeniable and productive Christian journey.
CONCLUSION: Every believer should therefore live to please God with grateful heart.
PRAYER POINTS
- Father, please help me to follow You with a grateful heart till the end.
- Every demand of flesh that can cause ingratitude be crucified in Jesus name.
- Father, give every believer a heart that walks in Your ways.
- Thank God for another calendar year in RCCG.
- Personal prayer request.
ASSIGNMENT: Make the decision to make out time in this RCCG calendar year to be fully participatory in House Fellowship on weekly basis.
GOLDEN DIET FOR THE WEEK
MONDAY: Know that it is a good thing to give thanks to God- Psalms 92:1.
TUESDAY: Enter His gate with thanksgiving on a daily basis -Psalms 100:4.
WEDNESDAY: Read and meditate – Psalms 103:1-22.
THURSDAY: Show love to someone today by sharing a message of Hope.
FRIDAY: Ask God to help you to be continuously grateful.
SATURDAY: God inhabits our praises so don’t stop praising Him -Psalms 22:3.
SUNDAY: God demands it; take some minutes to thank Him -Luke 17:17.
