TODAY’S  SCRIPTURE : PSALM 8:3-4

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?

JOHN HAGEE DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE / SERMON FOR TODAY 5TH MAY 2023.

Greatness is more than a catch phrase, much more than a campaign slogan. If we pause long enough in any moment of any day, we will become aware of the greatness all around us.

Genesis 1 tells us that God created light on the first day. On the fourth day, He set lights in the heavens — a greater light to rule the day, and a lesser one to rule the night. He also set the stars in the sky — so numerous that they are impossible to count. Every morning, that greater light rises over the eastern horizon and sets in the west. It warms our planet to create an ecosystem finely balanced to sustain life. Greatness!

At night, those smaller points of light twinkle against a black velvet sky. For many years, humankind believed that our solar system was the only one that existed. We now know that many galaxies spin outside of ours, that innumerable stars shine beyond our sight. Telescopes have given us the ability to gaze deeper and deeper into space, and the deeper we search, the farther it stretches — beyond our vision and our mathematical calculations. God’s greatness on display!

Amazingly enough, Psalm 147:4 assures us that God knows the number of the stars. Not only does He know the number, He knows all of their names.

The breathing process? The easy, unconscious inhalation and exhalation, the act of taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide, comes from Him. God breathed the breath of life into Adam and created a living being. Job declared that the breath of the Almighty gave him life (Job 33:4). Let everything that has breath praise the Lord for His greatness!

Consider the handiwork of God all around us. See it in the watercolor of an evening sky, smell it in the raindrops, hear it in the birdsong, and in the moment, breathe out a prayer of gratitude to the Creator for His greatness.

Blessing:
Heavenly Father, help me to slow down today. Open my eyes to see the work of Your hands everywhere around me. May I never lose the wonder. With the breath You gave, I say, “Thank You.” In Jesus’ name…Amen.
