The Topic of Daily Fountain Devotional for 16th May 2024 Is ” Like A Drink Offering To God”
Read: Philippians 2: 17-18 (NKJV)
- Yes, and if I am being poured out [as a drink offering] on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
- For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.
ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 16TH MAY 2024.
Drink offering relates to a form of libation which formed one of the sacrifices and offerings in the Law of Moses. Apostle Paul employed simile as a figure of speech to explain to his listeners that he was ready and willing to give his life which would serve as drink offering to God. He also said that he would rejoice and be glad to do so as long as it would deepen their faith and love for Christ Jesus and provoke them to more service in God. What a sacrificial love! Paul was ready to go to any extent to prove his love and commitment, not only to God who called him but also to his spiritual children who looked up to him as a model.
Spiritual leadership is about love and sacrifice. When the chips are down to prove your love, even to the laying down of your life (being poured like a drink offering), will you be ready? Whatever is not worth dying for is not worth living for! The extent to which you are ready to go for your chosen course would determine your influence and impact. As you work for and walk with God in faith, there will be occasions when your existence will be threatened and death will stare you clearly in the face. You must take it with courage and rejoice because it will not be in vain. As in the words of Apostle Paul, let our words be “I will rejoice even ifI lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God” (verse 17).
PRAYER: Dear Father, grant me the courage to love and sacrifice for You all the days of my life in Jesus’ Name.
