Read: Ephesians 5: 13-17(NKJV)
13. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
14. Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”
15. See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,
16. redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord [is.]
ANGLICAN COMMUNION DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE FOR 12TH JULY 2022.
STUDY: One major characteristic of light is that it exposes (v.13). In other words, it does not allow anything to hide from sight. Nothing is hidden where light is present. Jesus says in Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Believers in Christ are the light of the world. This is the background of Paul’s position in our passage today. As carriers of the light of God, Christians are enjoined to arise and shine in order to dispel darkness (v.14 cf. Isaiah 60:1). They are not to walk as fools but to display the wisdom of God in all things (vv. 15-17). It is quite unfortunate today that some of those who claim to be the light of the world are not projecting it.
I hope you are not one of those who keep the light of the gospel without reflecting it? Unless you rise and shine as light in the darkness of the world, the devil will continue to take the centre stage in your environment, family and business. Do not be deceived, you are not supposed to keep your light under the table. Let the world know you for the Christian you are. Do not allow situations and circumstances make you deny the power of God and His righteousness. You are to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour with your life and conduct. You are the light of the world; you are to live by the truth and for the truth. The good Lord will give you grace.
