TOPIC: ETERNAL REWARD

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please do not let me miss my reward in Heaven.

MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 19:29

And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 9:16-27 KJV .

16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

INTRODUCTION:

The Scriptures say do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain. It also says the labourer is worthy of his reward. So, God has rewards for all that make it to the kingdom. We shall one day cross to the other side where we shall have a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory (2 Corinthians 4:17; Psalm 37:34; Psalm 91:8).

OUTLINES:

1.TYPES OF REWARD
2: OTHER TYPES OF REWARD

1. TYPES OF REWARD
Jesus Christ has prepared crowns for rulers in His His kingdom.
These crows and their qualifications are:

  1. The crown of life (James 1:2). The qualification for this is that you must have endured temptation and remain faithful. Other qualifications include overcoming evil loving the Lord and being faithful unto death (Revelation 2:10).
  2. The incorruptible crown (1 Cor. 9:24-25). This is for those who patiently run the race to Heaven and who are temperate in all things.
  3. The crown of rejoicing (1 Thess. 2:19). You must be a soul winner to receive this crown.
  4. The crown of glory (1 Peter 5:4). A crown for true pastors, missionaries and teachers.
  5. The crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8). It is for those expecting the Lord and earnestly waiting for His coming.

2. OTHER TYPES OF REWARD
Teacher should make the student understand that apart from crowns and leadership positions in God’s Kingdom as Kings and priests, the believer will also be privileged to:
i. Reign with Christ (Romans 8:17-18).
ii. Behold His face (Psalm 17:15; Rev. 22:4).
iii. Inherit all things (Rev. 21:7).
iv. Shine as a star (Dan. 12:3).
v. Be a pillar in the temple of God (Rev. 3:12).
vi. Have access to the tree of life (Rev. 22:1-5; Rev. 22:14).
vii. Be glorified with Christ (Galatians 4:7).

CONCLUSION: Knowing full well that we have this wonderful rewards in serving God, what manner of people should we be? (1John 3:2-3).

QUESTIONS:

  1. List the three various types of crowns and qualifications to have them.
  2. What other rewards will Christians receive?

ASSIGNMENT: Student should carefully observe their lives, earnestly desire these eternal rewards and work at getting them.
