daily devotion for today

THE TOPIC OF TEENAGERS OPEN HEAVENS FOR 23RD JUNE 2020 IS “ACTING ON THE WORD.”

Memorise: James 1:25

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

BIBLE READING: JAMES 1:22-25

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Bible Reading In One Year: Esther 4-6; Acts 5:17-42

TEENS OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL 23RD JUNE 2020.

In 2 Samuel 23:14-17, King David made a very expensive request. He asked for water from a location that could cost his men their lives. Yet David’s men risked their lives and got him the water. In like manner, just as David’s men shunned logic to get David the water he wanted, God wants us to throw caution to the wind in living a life that pleases Him.

God is looking for those who will make constant sacrifices and pay the price of commitment for the life we have been called to live as Christians.

The truth is, nowadays, no one talks about the price you have to pay as Christians anymore. But the fact is that we have been called to a higher calling. We live by very high standards as laid in the Bible. When you are unfairly and cruelly treated by someone, the logical thing to do is pay the person in his own coin, but as a Christian, you are to forgive and walk away.

That won’t always be an easy thing to do, but the Bible has said it and you have to live by it. When you have just one plate of food to your very hungry self and you come in contact with a friend who hasn’t had food to eat all day, what do you do? Logically, you are to say, sorry o, I have this one plate and I am very hungry too. But as a Christian, you are to share that plate joyfully with the person. A genuine Christian act on the word of God.

Key Point: If you find it impossible to obey God’s word, you have to run back to God for help.

Hymn: When We Walk With The Lord

When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way,
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away,
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay,
Not a grief nor a loss,
Not a frown nor a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.

But we never can prove
The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay,
For the favour He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way,
What He says we will do,
Where He sends, we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
