TOPIC OF MOUNTAIN TOP LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR FRIDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER IS “GOD IS SOVEREIGN.”

And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.

God is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He rules in the kingdom of rulers and He is the Ruler of rulers. The Bible affirms this in Daniel 4:25 , “The most High rules in the kingdom of men and He gives it to whosoever He pleases.” Similarly, Proverbs 21:1 says that the heart of a king is in the hands of the Lord, and like a river He turns it wheresoever He pleases. God is the One who enthrones kings and dethrones them. He determines whether they will live or die. God is sovereign; kings are not. Absolute power belongs to God and kings derive power and authority from Him.

Esther 6:13 shows us how God reigns over kings: he can take away their sleep. God took away the sleep of Ahauserus and he asked that the Book of Remembrance be brought to him because heaven had purposed to promote and bless Mordecai. Genesis 41: 1-4 shows that God controls kings because He could give them dream that will make them come to your rescue. Pharaoh’s dream came from God because heaven was set to favour Joseph, change his status from being a prisoner to a Prime Minister and fulfil his dreams. God also controls how long kings live. In Isaiah 38:1-5 , God Himself sent Prophet Isaiah to tell King Hezekiah that he would not survive his sickness and should prepare to die.

When Hezekiah prayed and God heard him, He again sent Isaiah back to tell Hezekiah that he had added fourteen years to his life. God is indeed sovereign. He can cut short the lives of kings. Acts 12:20-23 shows that Herod was troubling the Apostles and God killed him. He killed James and tried to kill Peter, but God sent his angel to deliver Peter from Herod’s prison. After that Herod received the glory that belonged to God and God commanded worms to eat him up. Our worship, praise and adoration should exclusively be given to God, not any earthly king or prince or man.

God is the Source of every good and perfect gift we receive and enjoy. Kings and rulers of the earth receive are subject to God and should worship him as well. The Bible reveals that in Daniel 4:28-33 , when Nebuchadnezzer, the king of Babylon, refused to worship God and give him the glory that belongs to Him, God moved him out of the kingdom of men to the kingdom of beasts for seven years.

It was only when Nebuchadnezzer acknowledged and confessed that the most High God ruled in the kingdom of men and that he appoints over it whomsoever he will. Beloved, are you a king, a ruler or a leader? Learn from Nebuchadnezzer, don’t let your heart be lifted up; don’t let your mind be hardened in pride. Worship, obey and honour God in all you; your reign, rule and leadership will be protected, sustained and made to thrive. Be wise!

The greatness of a man’s power is the measure of His surrender to the sovereign LORD.

The God of all flesh will appear in your situation.
