MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 20TH JULY 2021

The widow of Zarephath did not only step out in faith, she also gave all she had. Imagine what she and her son were passing through when Elijah met her and came up with his request. She was a widow and also a victim of a widespread famine. She faced the reality of her death with her son. She was there at the city gate gathering sticks to prepare her last and final meal with her son and then die.

Assuming you find yourself in such situation and a stranger just walked up to you to make such a demand that Elijah made, what would have been your reaction and response? What this widow did showed something about her: she was an unselfish or generous giver. All what God asked from you before the miraculous is your response of faith (1 Kings 17:11-12a).

When God asks you to give, He gives a promise: “Give and it shall be given unto you” (Lk. 16:38). The instruction was for her to provide water and bread for the prophet first. She obeyed and got the miracle of continuous flow of flour and oil. (1 Kings 17:1113) Take God at His word. Give Him your best and you will never lack. You will always receive much more than you give in return (Lk. 6:38). If you give, it will not just come back to you, but it will be given with bonus and blessings. Generosity begets generosity (Mal.3:10-11).

God promised that when you give, you will not only enjoy the promises here on earth but also a future life with Him. Jesus told the disciples that anyone who gives up something valuable for His sake will be repaid a hundred times over in this life (Mk. 10:29-30). The widow gave Elijah a single meal and God gave her three years of food back. Whatever you give to God is not a loss but an investment. God will surely multiply it back to you. Giving is an act of faith.

God’s grace is extended to you all the time when you give. Beloved, learn valuable lessons from the widow of Zarephath and emulate her! Give your life to God first and your other gifts will be acceptable to Him and rewarded by Him.
