Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary awarded him a Master of Divinity (MDiv), and he finished his Doctor of Ministry (DMin) in 2014. Prior to being appointed Senior Pastor of First Baptist Texarkana in February 2003, he worked as Pastor of Membership and Missions at Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, from 1997 to 2003.
