TOPIC OF DAILY MANNA DEVOTIONAL FOR TUESDAY 23RD JULY IS “PRAISE HIM BEFORE YOU RECEIVE”.

BIBLE TEXT: Judges 13:15-25
15. And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.
16. And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread; and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.
17. And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?
18. And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?
19. So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD; and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.<pr />20. For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.
21. But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.
22. And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.
23. But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
24. And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson; and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.
25. And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.
KEY VERSE: Judges 13:19
“So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the Lord: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on”.

DAILY MANNA DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY

The great composer, Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was elderly when he was invited to watch the performance of his piece, ‘The Creation’ in Vienna Music Hall. The presentation was so classic that the ecstatic crowd rose to applaud him for his composition. But old Haydn surprised all present when he struggled to his feet from his wheelchair in which he was confined for ages and appealed for calm. As they watched to hear him speak, he pointed to the sky, shouting, “No, no, not from me, but from thence comes all!”
Like Haydn, believers need to adore God to Whom they owe their existence. An attitude of gratitude is always pleasing to God as it allows us to praise Him. Manoah, in our text, had received a confirmation of the prophecy given to his wife for the removal of barrenness from his family. In his excitement, he offered refreshment for the carrier of the good news, not knowing that he was an angel. The angel rejected his offer and requested instead that a burnt offering be made and offered unto the Lord.
The easiest way to receive from God is through praise. Praise Him for what is coming. Adore Him for what He is going to do. There is no sweeter song in God’s ears than the song of one who blesses Him for grace that has not yet been tasted, for answers that have not been received but are sure to come.
Therefore, get your harps and sing Him a song of Zion, no matter what you are going through. Though you have no income to meet your needs, you may be childless or even homeless, nonetheless, bless the Lord. Your praise while in distress will be sweet music to His ears. This is the way you may confidently find deliverance. If you can only trust and praise God today, you will see marvellous things that will utterly astonish you.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Praise God for grace not yet tasted; it is sweeter to God’s ears.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 13-17
