Scriptures: Genesis 24:57–58

TODAY’S INSIGHT – 16TH JUNE 2024.

“Well,” they said, “we’ll call Rebekah and ask her what she thinks.” So they called Rebekah. “Are you willing to go with this man?” they asked her.

And she replied, “Yes, I will go.” (Genesis 24:57–58)

IN RESPONSE to Eliezer’s prayer, the Lord directed Abraham’s servant to a woman from Abraham’s family clan-a woman of uncommon character who worshiped the one true Creator. And in addition to all that, she was pretty! All systems were a go, except . . . Would Rebekah be willing to travel five hundred miles away from everything familiar to marry a complete stranger?

It was a big decision, so the family proposed they take ten days to discuss the matter. But the servant insisted on returning right away, certain of the Lord’s hand in guiding him. So they asked Rebekah. Without hesitation, she responded, “Yes, I will go.”

She had never laid eyes on Isaac. She had met the servant only a few hours earlier. But she had heard enough to know that the Lord had sovereignly arranged her marriage. It wasn’t long before she and a few servant women were headed south on camels to meet her husband.

In many ways, Rebekah demonstrated the same kind of faith her late mother-in-law exercised when leaving Ur with Abraham. Like Sarah, Rebekah left her stable existence among her kin to become a nomad with her husband. She committed herself to a life of faith, not knowing where it might lead or what she might find along the way.

Perhaps there is somewhere you sense God calling you to go right now. You don’t have all the information; you don’t know all the details; you may not have even laid eyes on the people you will be teamed up with. But if God’s hand is in it, you can trust that He will be faithful. You can say yes, despite the unknowns.

REFLECT

What is God calling you to do during this part of your journey of faith? What first step can you take today?

Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.

PSALM 37:5
