TOPIC OF OPEN HEAVENS FOR 25 JANUARY 2020 IS “GOD’S SANDPAPER.”

MEMORISE: Hebrews 12:11

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

READ: ECCLESIASTES 4:9-12 (KJV)

9. Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

10. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.

11. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat; but how can one be warm alone?

12. And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

OPEN HEAVEN 25 JANUARY 2020 BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: GENESIS 38-40

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY

When a carpenter is working on a piece of furniture, he has a picture of what he wants the finished work to look like.

He puts in a lot of effort to make the piece of wood into what he has in mind, and if it is not smooth as he wishes, he smoothens it to the desired state with some sandpaper.

Jesus Christ is our carpenter and He has a picture of what He wants us to be as He works on us; however, every now and then, we exhibit certain behaviors which can hinder His ultimate plan, so He employs the sandpaper (a person or situation) to smoothen us out.

The experience, however, is always painful as noted in today’s memory verse but it is for our own good.If a piece of wood being sandpapered could express itself, it would scream in pain, but the beauty of the outcome will make it worthwhile. Hebrews 12:6 clarifies this:

“For whom the Lord loveth, He chasteneth.”

When God wants to smoothen you out, He will put someone in your life as a piece of sandpaper, until you are well-polished.

Your sandpaper could be your boss in the office or your pastor in Church. Despite their harshness, see the sandpaper in them.

There is probably a behaviour that God wants you to shed or acquire from working with that boss or pastor.

The most frequent piece of sandpaper I have seen God use on people is their spouse. He knows that you can resign in an office or leave a church, but your contract with your spouse is for life.

So, He often uses our spouses to smoothen us out. The problem with most people however, is that instead of submitting to the process of change and becoming better, they choose to fight their spouses.

It’s no wonder many have remained on one spot for very long. Yield to change. Listen to what your God-fearing spouse is trying to correct in your behaviour – it is for your own good.

If you allow yourselves to be smoothened by each other, you would advance fast in life and your home would be a better place to raise your children in. Your latter years would also be more pleasurable.

Thank you for reading today’s Open Heavens 25th January 2020 by Pastor E. A. Adeboye. Kindly share with others. Attending mid-week services are important to keep your YOUR FIRE BURNING.

SMALL FELLOWSHIP MEETINGS ALSO HELP YOU STRENGTHEN YOUR spirit man against temptations. Meeting with a prayer partner organizing small Bible study group meetings regularly will also make you sharper spiritually.

The faster you let the sandpaper do its work, the better for you.

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee!
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy riven side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure;
Cleanse me from its guilt and power.

2. Not the labours of my hands,
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears for ever flow,
All for sin could not atone,
Thou must save and Thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to Thy cross I cling
Naked, come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for grace,
Foul, I to the fountain fly
Wash me, Saviour, or I die.

4. While I draw this fleeting breath,
When my eyelids close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgement throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.
