TOPIC: Bearing Fruits That Abide
OPENING PRAYER: Father, help me to be a fruitful child in Your kingdom.
MEMORY VERSE: John 15:16
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”
BIBLE PASSAGE: Acts 16:1-5 (KJV)
1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.
4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
LESSON INTRODUCTION:
The Lord’s command is that all born again Christians should bear fruits and more importantly that the fruits should abide. Therefore, there is the need for extra spiritual efforts on souls saved to get established, localised in a church fellowship and mobilised until they too become soul winners. The Master did not just command us to bear fruits but that the fruits may abide (John 15:16). There is nothing compared to the worth of a soul won into the kingdom of God (Luke 15:4-7).
TEXT REVIEW: Acts 16:1-5
A. In this passage, the Bible narrates how:

LESSON OUTLINES
LESSON OUTLINE 1: FRUIT-BEARING IS A MUST FOR THE BELIEVER
A. The primary purpose of our election into the family of God is to bear fruits (Jn.15:16:Rom. 7:4).
B. Failure to carry out this instruction may be disastrous in that it may lead to an eternal loss of fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ Jn.15:1-2; Matt.3:10).
C. It is wise therefore, to watch on possible causes of unfruitfulness which may include:
i. Wiles and devices of the wicked one (Eph.6:11).
ii. Tribulations, persecution and worldliness (Matt. 13:18-22).
D. It is important to note that these causes may not be due to a personal fault, yet this type of attitude may incur the Lord’s disappointment for failing to invest life’s resources (Lk.13:6-9, Lk.19:20).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should mention how many souls they have won to the Kingdom of God since they gave their lives to Christ.
LESSON OUTLINE 2: ABIDING FRUITS IS CHRIST’S COMMAND
A. Jesus ordained the believers not only to bear fruits but also to ensure that the fruits last (abide) Jn.15:16).
B. In order to achieve this, efforts must be geared towards conceiving, maturing and multiplying of the fruits (Col.1:28).
C. An essential tool in the hand of the Holy Spirit to achieve this is the man/woman sold out to the ministry of follow-up of the souls.
D. Biblical examples include the early Apostles particularly Paul (Acts 2:46; Act 15:36; Acts 16:5; Acts 18:18-23; Eph.1:15-18; Phil. 2:19-20).
E. The principles adopted include spending quality time in prayers and Bible study with the souls as led by the Holy Spirit.
F. The Holy Spirit is pleased to increase the work of grace in a life when our trust and confidence in God is expressed in the new convert to suitable and appropriate truths in the Holy Bible (Acts 2:41-47).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: As a child of God, how many souls have remained in the Church as a result of your follow-up?
SUMMARY:
Believers are commanded to bear abiding fruits.
CONCLUSION:
Having examined some basic principles, it is only worth it to put into practice all taught in this lesson.
