Beloved, if people knew the tragedy that unforgiveness could trigger, they would have been more ready to forgive. I welcome you to today’s devotional. In a series of incidents that occurred in a state in Western Nigeria, a wife refused to forgive her husband of many years, for having a one night flıng that resulted in the birth of a baby boy with a European woman in his base in Europe.
Having waited for so many years without his wife having a child for him, he came to Nigeria to break the news of the baby boy, just given birth to in Europe, as well as to beg his wife to forgive him for that one night fling that resulted in the conception of the child.
His wife pretended to have forgiven him. One night she got him drunk and slit his throat with a kitchen knife, while he slept. Unknown to this woman, the love they made the night her husband arrived, would have led to the conception they had waited almost 12 years to have. And one day while in police custody, waiting to be sentenced for the murder of her husband, she started exhibiting early signs of pregnancy. A pregnancy test was carried out on her and behold, she had conceived. She was pregnant. Now, one thing is clear: this lady will be allowed to have the child. But after that, she is very likely to get a death sentence or life imprisonment, for the sake of the baby. Now the question is, how will she tell the child what happened to his father if she is sentenced to life imprisonment? This is the tragedy she had brought upon herself due to unforgiveness. Today’s Basic Scripture Vs. 14 says: “For if you forgive others their trespasses your heavenly Father will forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Today’s Basic Scripture is saying (paraphrased): “Forgive and you will be forgiven; refuse to forgive and you will be judged.” No wonder, Hilary Clinton once repeated:

“Unforgiveness is like a poison that we drink and we expect it to hurt others.” When you refuse to forgive, thinking you are hurting your offender, you are actually hurting yourself more, emotionally and medically. And on the spiritual frontier, you are not only positioning yourself for the judgment of God, you are also shutting the heavens to your prayers. And this is why Mark 11:25 says: “And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone.
So that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” This makes forgiveness a key to God’s mercy and answer to prayers, Just as unforgiveness triggers the judgment of God and also triggers the ACCUSER OF THE BRETHREN to BLOCK your glory!
