MOUNTAIN TOP LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY

Many people blame the devil for their problems. Some blame their siblings, spouses and other people for the challenges they are facing in life. The truth is that the attitude of such people is what is getting them in trouble. Why did the Israelites spend forty years on a journey that was supposed to last only eleven days? Attitude. God wants us to always find something to thank Him for and express thanksgiving to Him at all times. Like David, we should bless the LORD at all times and make His praise to be in our mouths continually. People who don’t always thank God will find themselves always grumbling, murmuring and complaining.

The Bible says that in everything we should give thanks to God. It is better for us to cultivate the attitude of gratefulness rather than complaining. In our Fire Scripture for today (Numbers 21:4-7 ), the children of Israel ran into a serious problem with God because of their own wrong attitude. God had delivered them from age-long bondage and destroyed their enemies. He parted the Red Sea for them to pass through but closed up the same Red Sea to give them a great deliverance. He had made the bitter water of Marah potable for them through His servant, Moses. He had also given them water from the rock and manna from heaven, just to satisfy their longing souls and prove His great love for them. The right response from these people should have been gratitude: offering thanksgiving and praise to God daily.

However, the Israelites’ attitude was ingratitude of the highest order. They complained and spoke against the Lord and Moses, “Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread and there is no water here in the wilderness. Besides, we detest this light bread you call manna. We are sick and tired of it.” God heard them (just as He heard Sarah’s statements of doubt and unbelief in Genesis 18 ). To these ungrateful children of Israel, God sent fiery serpents which bit many of them and so many people died. Beloved, remember that when the same children of Israel needed bread and God gave them manna (angels food), they had not seen anything like it before; they loved it and exclaimed, “This is great!” The very thing that was amazing to them a while ago, now they despised it and murmured. Do not murmur about your husband, your wife, your child, your job and your car. You prayed for ten years to have that child; you fasted and prayed for ten years to have that spouse, now you have your request, be happy with it and thank God. Stop complaining. Stop speaking against the Lord and your spiritual leader. Stop grieving the Holy Spirit. Cultivate the habit of finding something to thank God for, rather than complaining. Gratefulness is the right attitude, not complaining. You don’t have to incur the wrath of God and start seeking help like the Israelites. They had to run to Moses to plead with God on their behalf to remove the fiery serpents that were killing them. Moses did and as many as looked on the bronze serpent he made and put on the pole (a type of Jesus on the Cross) lived.

MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL HYMN FOR 4TH DECEMBER 2019

BRINGING IN THE SHEAVES

1. Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,

Sowing in the noon tide and the dewy eve;

Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,

We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Chorus

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,

We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves;

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,

We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

2. Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,

Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze;

By and by the harvest and the labour ended,

We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

3. Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,

Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves;

When our weeping’s over,

He will bid us welcome,

We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
