MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 25TH FEBRUARY 2021

Having seen how we should NOT find a help meet, we will now examine how to find and know God’s will in marriage. The place of God’s word in our discovering the will of God in marriage cannot be over-emphasised. Israel was guided by a pillar of fire by day and a pillar cloud by night. Today, believers are guided by His WORD and the SPIRIT.

This is one of the reasons why you need to sit under the anointed teaching of the word (Isa. 30:20-21). First, a word of scripture strongly impressed on the heart by the Holy Spirit when in prayer can be His method of guiding some people (John 14: 26). Second, the inner voice of the Holy Spirit, prompting, directing, influencing or checking is another method. (John 10:4,6, 27; Acts 10:17-21) When the Holy Spirit leads, He does not make mistakes because He is God and the Spirit of Truth.

Another way a believer can be guided to know God’s will in marriage is by receiving direct revelation. (Acts 11:12). God still guides through dreams, visions, and revelations today. The promise of Joel 2:28-29 is for the days in which we live (Acts 2: 16-21). God used this method of guidance after Pentecost. His dealings with the church from Pentecost until now has not changed (Acts 5: 19-21).

We must diligently compare whatever is revealed with the scripture. If any revelation (to us or to anyone we know) contradicts the scripture in anyway, we must reject the revelation, vision or dream as false (Isaiah 8: 19-20). Special, God-given love that cannot be quenched by temporal, contrary circumstances (Song of Solomon 8:6-7) is also a reliable way to know God’s will in marriage.

In this case, the love is not a mere natural attraction, neither is it affection that is self-produced through friendly visitation, familiarity and exchange of gifts. Beloved, next to your salvation decision, the decision on who you get married to is very crucial. You cannot leave it to guesswork. Rather, you must engage in spiritual exercise like reading the Bible and claiming God’s promises on divine guidance (as stated above) and engaging in purposeful fasting and praying until the heavens open and God gives you an answer of peace.

How your marriage turns out (blissful or painful) will affect other areas of your life: career, ministry, health, progress, and so on, pleasantly or unpleasantly. That is why you need to be God-led and to get your choice right. God still guides today. He is willing to guide you.

PRAYER POINTS:
