Who Is Bishop David Oyedepo?
Bishop David Oyedepo is the founder of the Living Faith Church worldwide and presiding Bishop of the Faith Tabernacle, ota Ogun State. Oyedepo is the chancellor of Covenant University and Landmark University.
He has been referred to as one of the most influential preachers in Nigeria and one of the forerunners of the Christian charismatic movement in Africa. According to Forbes magazine in 2011, he was identified as the richest pastor in Nigeria, But it would be impossible to tell the full details of his life without noting the solid foundation his grandmother’s parenting provided for him. His parents left him in the care of Rachael Adeyiola Odetundun, his grandmother so that he could attend school while they continued to run their businesses in Osogbo, the city in which he was born.
She was a devoted member of the Anglican Church who regularly attended church early on Sunday mornings for Holy Communion and carried her tithe in a tin (a local container for keeping the money). His grandmother served as his first God-appointed mentor, and she did a wonderful job of educating him with her teachings. As a result, he was raised in a stable spiritual atmosphere.
David Oyedepo’s Early Life / Marriage
David Olaniyi Oyedepo was born on September 27, 1954, to Pa Abraham Oyedepo and Madam Dorcas Oyedepo in the town of Osogbo, in the southwest of Nigeria. He is a native of Omu-Aran in Kwara State’s Irepodun Local Government Area. The only outings he ever experienced as a child were the daily trips to the church. He claimed that his mother forced him to go to 5:00 a.m. prayers. practically dragging him along half-awake and half-asleep every day! He, therefore, grew up surrounded by God and the church.
At Government Secondary School in Omu-Aran, David met Betty Lasher, a teacher from a missionary organization, who taught him Christian Religious Knowledge and later introduced Christ to him on the 19th of February 1969, when he was fifteen years old. He had begun his primary education in the church and later moved on to that institution after enrolling there. He continued on to Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin to pursue his interest in architecture. He then proceeded to Honolulu University in the United States to pursue his Ph.D. in Human Development.
On May 1, 1981, while traveling to Ilesha, he had an encounter with the Holy Spirit, who told him, “Look out for a peaceful area, I want to communicate with you.” Following his obedient response to the voice of the Holy Spirit, he experienced an “eighteen-hour vision”
